Virtual Machining Process Technology (VMPT) is highly relevant for the manufacturing industry remaining competitive on the global market. Industry needs integrated machining operation modelling and simulation in a virtual environment in order to design and optimize the complete manufacturing cycle.
The rapid development, prototyping, testing and deployment of machining strategies are required in order to reduce costs and achieve the highest quality. A key tool in achieving this goal is the modelling of product development and manufacturing in a digital environment. The modelling employs a science-based approach in which the complete machining process can be simulated and optimized before resorting to costly and time-consuming physical trials on the shop floor.
The 3rd International Conference on VMPT will take place at the University of Calgary, Canada from May 20-23, 2014. VMPT 2014 will build on the success of the inaugural conference held at the École Polytechnique, Montréal in 2012, as well as the first meeting of the NSERC Canadian Network for Research and Innovation in Machining Technology (CANRIMT) held at the University of British Columbia in 2011.
