S-G TESOL is an intensive twenty-two week teacher education program which introduces participants to the principles and theoretical underpinnings of communicative language teaching (CLT) while focusing more on the practical.
As part of this practical focus, participants design lesson plans, consider classroom management issues, give teaching demonstrations, and analyze, adapt and create materials for classroom use.
Our goal is to help participants develop the knowledge and skills which will provide a soldi foundation for CLT. Our graduates enter the classroom confident of their ability to teach and inspire learners of all ages and levels of ability.

1. Methodology of Language Teaching
Methodology is the core course of the TESOL Program. It begins with a three-week introduction to second language acquisition theory to help participants better understand the rationale for Communicative Language Teaching. It then exposes participants to a rich variety of communicative principles, ideas and techniques for use in their own classes. Attention is paid to the teaching of skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing, and also to topics, such as classroom. As in all components of the program, participants are strongly encouraged to contribute ideas and to reflect upon those of others. The experience all bring to the classroom as teacher and/or language learner provides a sound basis for doing so.
2. Materials Use and Development
This course is designed to give students the skills and experience necessary to select and incorporate appropriate materials for their classrooms. The course provides students with access to a wide range of English teaching resources including text, audio, video, language games, and related materials. A major component of this course is the Technology section, in which students are introduced to a wealth of teaching resources available through the Internet.
3. Practicum
The Practicum course provides hands-on teaching experience for teacher trainees. Experienced and new teachers alike are encouraged in the development of their personal teaching style and capabilities. Participants have the opportunity to try out the modern teaching methodologies which they are studying and develop their abilities to plan and conduct lessons by way of observation of other teachers as well as by way of thorough feedback on their own teaching performance. With its series of carefully graded activities, the Practicum course gently guides program participants to competence in increasingly complex teaching situations.
4. English Communication
The English Communication Class (ECC) is an intergral component of the TESOL program that aims to increase the student's confidence and proficiency in using English as a second language. It also provides students with an authentic classroom environment where they can see how language theory translates into practice. This is achieved through a balanced curriculum that engages students in a variety of exercises, activities, tasks and projects. The ECC is a course in progress that is constantly evolving and adapting to the ever-changing needs of the aspiring English language teacher.
This course gave me the opportunity to think about how to be a good teacher. The teachers are the kindest I've ever met, and I've learned a lot from my fellow students. We became good friends. -- Oh Mi-Soon ( 3rd Session)
I highly recommend this program for a person who wants to build professional knowledge and techniques in the TESOL field. It really helps me form my educational philosophy and analyze my teaching style, too. Most of all, I have felt comfortable with the faculty who is really willing to help and give advice whenever I need. -- Su Hee Hong ( 4th Session)
The program is excellent! The teachers and the teachers' attitudes are very very good. Activities such as role-play and micro-teaching are very helpful to me. I particularly like that I can get so much information and materials from the classes. -- Jason Cha (5th Session)
I've been working in the field of teaching quite sometime, but never learned to teach English in systematic ways. This program enables me to teach English more effectively. -- Stephanie Smisson ( 8th Session)
